Simone McCarter

Simone Barretta McCarter joined the Ingram Center for Student-Athlete Success in June 2023 where she directs the tutoring program. She also serves as a VuCeptor as part of the Vanderbilt Visions program for first-year students. Before joining the athletics department, she offered academic support at Vanderbilt’s Writing Studio and Tutoring Services.

Simone earned her master’s degree from California and her doctorate degree from Pennsylvania. She conducts research on best practices related to intercultural communication and collaboration. Her recent work explores the use of an equity-centered design framework for the development of tutoring strategies in support of culturally and linguistically diverse students.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Simone lives in Nashville with her husband, son, and beagle, Jack.
