2013(Junior):Played and started in all 17 games for Commodores… Tied for team lead with 21 caused turnovers, including a season-high three against Notre Dame… Also collected 26 ground balls – third most on team… Picked up multiple ground balls against Denver, Boston College, Northwestern, Louisville, Notre Dame, Penn, Harvard and North Carolina… Notched a career-high five ground balls against Harvard… Led the team with 42 fouls.

2012 (Sophomore): Played in 15 games in VU defense, making 13 starts… Sixth on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers… Picked up multiple ground balls against Duke, Canisius, Penn State and Ohio State… Also caused a pair of turnovers against Ohio State.

2011 (Freshman):Played in all 16 games of her freshman campaign in the Commodore defense, making 15 starts… Named to the IWLCA[apos]s All-West/Midwest Region second team… Sixth on the team in caused turnovers with 10… Season-high four ground balls in narrow 8-7 loss to No. 6 Florida… Caused multiple turnovers against the Gators and versus Stanford… Named American Lacrosse Conference Freshman of the Week on April 25 after a 12-10 victory over rival Notre Dame in the regular season finale… Caused a turnover and picked up one ground ball against the Irish, winning the opening draw of the overtime period to help VU score the eventual game-winner.

High School:Played for 2005 Vanderbilt graduate Meg Freeman at Ensworth… The Tigers won the 2009 Tennessee Girls Lacrosse Association championship… Also lettered in basketball and track and field.

Personal:Brandi Sha[apos]meka Byner… Born Nov. 19, 1991…. Daughter of Tina and Earnest Byner… Has three sisters: Semeria (31), Adriana (29) and Kyara (20)… Father was a running back at East Carolina before moving on to a 14-year NFL career highlighted by a Super Bowl XXVI ring with the Washington Redskins… Younger sister, Kyara, also plays lacrosse and is a defender for Cincinnati… Majoring in human and organizational development with a emphasis on health and human services.
