The Sommerfeld File
Catherine Sommerfeld was a four-year letterwinner and senior cross country and track and field captain at LaGrange (Lyons). She was named team MVP on four occasions. Her prep bests include 4:57.90 in the 1,600 meters, 10:35.21 in the 3,200 meters 16:58.4 in the three miles (XC) and 18:03.3 in the 5K (XC). Sommerfeld has earned recognition as IHSA all-state, section and region and WSC all-conference. In 2023 she won section titles in the 3,200 meters and as a member of the 4×800-meter relay. During her senior cross country season, she placed third at the regional meet and fourth at the section championships. Sommerfeld set school records in the indoor and outdoor 3,200 meters and the indoor 1,600 meters at LaGrange. She was a member of the IHSA All-State Academic team.
