McElwain was a pleasant surprise for the Commodore offense after arriving on campus the first day of preseason camp… He quickly moved into a key role as the team’s top fullback, playing all 13 games as a punishing blocker and quality receiver out of the backfield… McElwain’s strong lead blocks helped the offense to tremendous success inside the opponent’s 20-yard line where the Commodore converted 43 of 46 red zone possessions into points… While McElwain had just one rush attempt on the year, he caught six passes for 35 yards, including important touchdowns in conference wins against Ole Miss and Tennessee.

High School
Two-time team captain… Three-year letterwinner for public school just north of Birmingham… Two-year starter (FB/LB)… Earned All-State and All-Area honors as junior and senior… As linebacker, registered more than 200 tackles, along with 18 tackles for loss and five quarterback sacks… Was co-captain of Alabama squad in postseason Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game… Also played in International Bowl All-American Game.
