Quality Control • Offense

Ryan Blakney enters his fourth season on the Vanderbilt staff. He assists Commodore offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig and his offensive staff in a quality control position.

A native of San Diego, Blakney comes to Nashville from the University of Wisconsin where he worked under Ludwig, who was named Vanderbilt offensive coordinator after the 2014 regular season.

With Blakney’s assistance, the Commodore offense has improved in both seasons under Ludwig, with running back Ralph Webb producing single-season and career rushing records and quarterback Kyle Shurmur establishing a new sophomore passing record in 2016.

At Wisconsin, Blakney contributed to one of the nation’s most productive offenses. Paced by record-breaking All-America running back Melvin Gordon, the Badgers averaged 34.6 points and 320.1 rushing yards in 2014.

In 2013, Blakney worked in offensive quality control at San Diego State. He also served as a student assistant at the school from 2011-12.

From 2008-10, Blakney was an assistant coach at Union Mine (Calif.) H.S.

Blakney graduated from SDSU in 2013 with a bachelor’s in kinesiology with an emphasis on physical education.
