His fortunes changed drastically when injuries to Tristan Strong and Chase Garnham provided an opportunity to start… Played in 11 games, starting four games at outside linebacker… Starts came against Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee as Garnham recovered from a hamstring injury… Earned 21 tackles… Posted two tackles for loss and pass breakup… Contributed season-high four tackles against Georgia.

2010
Owens saw limited action during his third year on campus… Played in one game as safety, but was not credited with a defensive stat.

2009
Played in every game, contributing on coverage units of special teams and as reserve safety, during redshirt freshman campaign… Credited with three total tackles on season, including a pair of solo stops in season-opening win over Western Carolina… Added first forced fumble of Commodore career during the victory over WCU… Also posted a tackle against Georgia Tech.

2008
Owens redshirted during his initial year at Vanderbilt, contributing as a safety on practice scout units.

Senior captain… Three-year starter in defensive secondary… Also started as TB and served as returner for 2007 squad that advanced to AAAA playoffs… As senior, contributed 58 tackles, one INT and three forced fumbles… Returned one fumble for TD… As TB, ran for 294 yards and two TDs on 37 carries and caught 12 passes for 198 yards and a TD… First team All-District 6-AAAA as DB… As junior, collected 80 tackles and two INTs… Also returned two kickoffs for TDs in 2006… Finished career with more than 200 tackles,… Standout sprinter, with PRs of 10.9 (100) and 22.13 (200).
