#11 Brent Trice Season 2009-10

2009
Trice put together his finest year in a Commodore uniform… One of the team[apos]s top athletes, Trice played both safety and outside linebacker in his fourth year on campus… Started six games at strongside linebacker and three games at safety in first year as starter… Moved to safety after early-season injury to co-captain Ryan Hamilton, then shifted back to linebacker as injuries limited personnel at that position. Ended the year with single-season highs in virtually every statistical category, including solo tackles (40), total tackles (82) and tackles for loss (5.5)… Finished as the team[apos]s fourth leading tackler… Had at least four tackles in 10 of 12 games… Named team[apos]s Defensive Player of the Week after stellar performance against Ole Miss: 14 total tackles and a pair of tackles for loss… Also added double-digit tackles against LSU, Georgia Tech and Kentucky… Highest solo-tackle total (6) came at Army.

2008
Played in every game, primarily seeing action as top reserve outside linebacker… Moved from full-time safety position before season… Proved productive in new role, finishing with 22 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 QB sacks, a forced fumble and one fumble recovery… Contributed four tackles and recovered a fumble after sacking QB in win over Rice… Also had 10-yard sack at Mississippi State… Shared in two tackles in team[apos]s Music City Bowl victory over Boston College.

2007
Key reserve safety in Commodore secondary as a sophomore, spelling starter Ryan Hamilton… Played in 11 of 12 games, missing only the Ole Miss encounter… Also valuable tackler on various coverage units… Set single highs with 10 solo tackles and 18 total stops… Contributed career high of four tackles in win over Miami (Ohio)… Had three tackles against Richmond, Auburn and Wake Forest.

2006
Played every game as a true freshman, either in the secondary as a second team or on special team coverage units… Ended season with eight total tackles, five solo stops, two tackles for loss, and an interception… Playing time increased when safety Ben Koger was lost for eight games with a leg fracture… First career pick came in win over Temple… Posted career high of two tackles versus Tennessee.

High School
Played safety and flex tight end for nationally regarded Fork Union Military Academy postgraduate squad in 2005… Posted three INTs and 10 sacks from safety position; caught 10 passes as tight end… Returned two punts for 80 yards… Senior captain and multiple-year starter at Orange County HS… Central Virginia Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, posting 81 tackles, five sacks, five forced fumbles, one interception and two blocked field goals… As receiver, hauled in 27 passes for 423 yards and five TDs… Standout in basketball, averaging 12 points and 12 rebounds as senior… Also played on varsity baseball.

Personal
Brent Lionel Trice… Son of Leo and Perphine Trice… Both parents work for Klockner Pentaplest Firm Plastics… Trice expects to complete his undergraduate degree in Sociology from the College of Arts and Science at the end of the Spring 2009 semester… An only child, born and raised near Charlottesville, Va… More than 30 student-athletes from Fork Union are expected to sign Division I football scholarships this year.
