ARIZONA
Earned 11 consecutive starts at quarterback for Wildcats in 2004 and 2005… Squad was 3-8 with Kovalcheck as starter in final four games in 2004 and first seven games in 2005… Helped Arizona defeat rival Arizona State 34-27 in 2004 finale, tossing three TDs… Earned Pac-10 All-Freshman by The Sporting News… As sophomore, guided Wildcats to win over Northern Arizona and narrow losses versus Utah and Stanford… Threw three TDs at Southern California… Named to Pac-10[apos]s All-Academic squad.

HIGH SCHOOL
As senior, threw for 2,600 yards passing and 19 TDs, leading St. Augustine to the CIF San Diego Section championship game… Threw for more than 7,000 yards and 70 TDs in career, recognized as one of West[apos]s top prep QBs… Played on defense his senior year… Earned All-City honors… Played in Global Junior Championship game for Team USA in come- from-behind 28-21 victory … Four-year Honor Roll student… National Football Foundation/Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete and San Diego Union-Tribune[apos]s All-Academic Athletic Award recipient as senior.

ACADEMICS
Kovalcheck earned a bachelor[apos]s degree in Business Management from the University of Arizona in May 2006, and is enrolled in graduate courses at Vanderbilt[apos]s Owen School of Management.

Son of Dick and Ella Kovalcheck… Born Oct. 1, 1984… Dad owns renowned Pennant tavern in South Mission Beach; mom is registered nurse… Dad played football and rugby at UC-Santa Barbara in late 1960s… Sister, Cece, is active in volleyball … More than 100 hours of community service working with disabled children … Enjoys surfing, horseshoes, golf and basketball… 2003 recipient of Arizona[apos]s Academic Champion Award.
