NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer opened the 2023 season by defeating Chattanooga 3-1 on Thursday night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
Vanderbilt maintained possession for the majority of the contest, allowing just three shots on goal throughout the entire match compared to 10 Vanderbilt shots on goals.
Goals from freshmen Ella Eggleston and Courtney Jones and sophomore Maddie Baker highlighted the match. Rachel Deresky tallied two of Vanderbilt’s five assists.
GOALS
- In her college debut, Jones registered her first career goal in the opening minutes of the contest. Addie Porter found Jones at the top of the 18-yard box for the finish.
- Baker’s goal came off a blocked shot from Chattanooga’s goalie in the 28th minute.
- Eggleston found the back of the net in the 76th minute of the match, after beating two Mocs to give Vanderbilt the 3-0 advantage.
