Soccer Ties in Final Minute in Kansas

Commodores and Jayhawks tie 1-1

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Vanderbilt soccer junior Addie Porter scored in the final minute of the game to keep the Commodores undefeated in a 1-1 draw Thursday night against Kansas at Rock Chalk Park.

Keeper Kate Devine came up with back-to-back saves on the first two Jayhawk shots in the first 15 minutes to keep the match even. The Dores led the Jayhawks 5-4 in shots heading into the break.

The Commodores came close to finding the back of the net after a yellow card was issued to Kansas’ Mackenzie Boeve in the opening minutes of the second half. The Jayhawks broke the scoring drought first on the service of a free kick from just outside the midfield circle.

Porter found the back on the back of the net in the 89th minute when Courtney Jones took her defender one-on-one, drawing her wide to allow room for Porter in the box. Jones crosses with her left foot and Porter connected.

The draw brings Vanderbilt to 1-0-2 on the season.
