March 13, 2012

We start our final week of introducing 2012 women’s soccer signees with a trip to the west coast for the eighth signee in our class: Laguna Niguel, Calif., native Lauren Hart.

Lauren

Playing at Dana Hills High School under the direction of Coach Sheena Jarvis, Hart has been a four-year starter on defense. She helped lead the Dolphins to a Sea View League Championship in 2011. She was voted the team’s Best Defensive Player in 2009.

Away from the soccer field, Hart participated on Dana Hills’ track and field squad, where she earned the Coach’s Award and was named Most Valuable Sprinter.

An excellent student, Hart has earned scholar-athlete honors in all four years at Dana Hills. She is a National Merit Commended Student and has been named the valedictorian of her class. Hart also has received a number of community service awards, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Award.

Hart has played her club soccer for Coach Doug Swanson and the West Coast Futbol Club for the past seven years. Usually serving as a starting back for her club side, Hart showed off her versatility in 2009 by moving to forward where she led the team in scoring en route to a Coast Soccer League championship.

Coach Greene on Hart:

“One of the things we needed to do in this class was add some versatility and toughness to our defense, and Lauren fits that bill. She is a tough, competitive player. We expect her to come in and compete for playing time as a freshman on our back line. With her overall pace and athleticism, we see her challenging our outside backs.

“When you watch Lauren play, she brings a relentless work rate to the field. She’s a hard defender to beat because she won’t go away. She’ll pound on you, and if you happen to get by her, she’ll fight to win the ball back.

“We know that Lauren’s athleticism is going to allow her to develop her game with us. She will bring a lot of energy to our defense. And when she gets into our environment consistently, she’s going to become even better on the ball.”
