Today we introduce the fourth student-athlete from our 2012 signing class (and second member of Connecticut FC), a forward from Armonk, N.Y.: Erin Myers.
A four-year stater for Coach Brendan Reidy at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Ct., Myers was the only player in Connecticut to by named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American. She earned All-State and Fairchester Athletic Association All-League honors in both her junior and senior seasons.
For the past two seasons, Myers played her club soccer with Connecticut FC, a squad that also features future Commodore Keegan Thimons. Under the direction of Dave Flowers, Myers’ CFC United side won back-to-back state championships and competed in the Elite Clubs National League.
Prior to joining CFC, Myers competed for the Eastern FC Cheetahs for five years. That club won the 2009 US Club Soccer National Cup Champions with Myers as a captain.
For seven years, Myers was involved with the Olympic Developmental Program, playing for the Region I pool team in 2010 and 2011. She also traveled to Liverpool, England, for three straight years to take part in an Eastern Soccer Tour, training at the Liverpool Academy.
An exemplary student, Myers has been on Sacred Heart’s high honor roll for all four years and boasts a 4.07 grade point average.
Personal: Erin Patricia Myers… Born May 13, 1994, in White Plains, N.Y…. Daughter of Donna and Kevin Myers… Has three older brothers: Kevin Jr. (26), Patrick (23) and Brian (21)… Father played Division II college football at CW Post (Long Island University)… Interested in a psychology major.
Coach Greene on Myers:
“The first thing that stood out to me when I saw Erin play was her technical ability. She is able to handle the ball under pressure, to possess and to link passes. Then the more I watched her play, her athleticism became very apparent. She has excellent speed. And what’s exciting about her is that she has excellent technical speed, so when she’s running with the ball at top speed, she’s under control and she distributes well. She understands how to put the proper pace on a pass for where her teammates are and where they need the ball.
“Erin is probably the most versatile player in this class. She has a lot of great tools on the ball, and I think she could play forward, midfield or defender. We really see her right now as a player that we would be excited to plug into a defensive midfield role. We lose Emily Grant out of that position, and while we have some players that are going to come in and battle for that spot, Erin’s ability to penetrate with the ball out of a defensive midfield position gives us the ability to create extra numbers in the attack.”
