Today we wrap up our tour of the women’s soccer team’s eight February signees by meeting a center back from Lilburn, Ga.: Cherrelle Jarrett.
Jarrett has been a four-year starter for Coach Judson Hamby’s Parkview High Panthers. The squad won Georgia state championships in 2008 and 2009, and were ranked No. 1 in the nation by the NSCAA in 2008.
Jarrett is a two-time All-Gwinnett County selection and was named to the Gwinnett Daily Post “Super Six.” In 2009, she helped the Panthers break school records by posting 18 shutouts and allowing only six goals.
In the classroom, Jarrett boasts a 3.8 grade point average and has been recognized as a scholar-athlete.
Jarrett plays club soccer for Coach Campbell Chapman’s ’93 Phoenix Red. That team has won six Georgia State Cup championships and two Region III Premier League titles, and is ranked in the nation’s Top 10.
During her three years with the Region III ODP team, Jarrett has played in Portugal and Costa Rica. She was named a top-five player in the South Atlantic Region by topdrawersoccer.com.
Personal: Cherrelle Antoinette Jarrett… Born July 28, 1993, in Tucker, Georgia… Daughter of Annette and Peter Jarrett… Has one younger brother, Jonathan (15)… Aspires to a major in civil engineering.
Coach Woodard on Jarrett:
“Cherrelle is one of the best center backs in the region. She is a fierce competitor, a technically sound player and a tremendous athlete. She will fight for a position on our team immediately. I fully expect to see great things throughout her career at Vanderbilt.”
