Our sixth introduction is actually the first player who committed to become a member of VU’s 2012 soccer recruiting class: a midfielder from Wayne, N.J., Andie Lakin.

A three-year starter for Head Coach Maria Pepe at Wayne Hills, Lakin was named the North Jersey Player of the Year by the Star Ledger in 2011. She led the Patriots to the 2011 Big North Conference championship.
Lakin has been active within the Olympic Developmental Program since 2007. She first made the Region I team in 2008 and has played three seasons with the squad including 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Coach Glenn Crooks led her ’94 N.J. Girls side to the National ODP Championships title in Phoenix.
This month, Lakin will travel with the Region I team–coached by Ian Stone and Darren Marshall–to Sochi, Russia, to participate in the Kuban Spring 2012 International U-19 Women’s Tournament.
Lakin has played her club soccer for the Real NJSC Power since 2008 under the direction of Erwin Van Bennekom. That squad won the 2011 Chelsea Match Fit Tournament and reached the finals of the NJYS State Cup and the NEWSS College Showcase.

Coach Greene on Lakin:
“Andie was our first commitment for the class of 2012 and we were thrilled when she told us she wanted to be part of our program. We had a good chance to evaluate her at Region I camp prior to her junior year in high school and she fit some specific needs for our team.
“What we saw in Andie was the ability to run at people with the ball and to be a good attacking personality. She is an excellent distributor of the ball with all surfaces of her feet and she has really good vision. She has the ability to solve pressure in tight spaces, so we see her coming in as an attacking midfield type player that can break people down on the dribble.
“Andie has been on the Region I team for four years, so she has played in nearly every big-time event that that side has been a part of.”
