Vanderbilt soccer 2018 signee Ella Shamburger will represent the United States at the Women’s U-19 Nations Tournament in Spain this week, as a member of the Under-18 U.S. Women’s National Team.

The high school senior from Atlanta is one of 22 members of the U.S. team coached by Jaime Frias. This is Shamburger’s first tournament with the national team, after attending multiple U-18 training camps last year and participating in the U-16 training pool in 2016.

“We are really happy for Ella as she continues to grow and impress at the international level,” Vanderbilt head coach Darren Ambrose said. “She continues to learn and apply herself, which has led to her call-ups to the youth national teams. It is invaluable experience for her that will help her transition to the college game.”

Shamburger is one of five members of Vanderbilt’s 2018 signing class. The 18-year-old won three state championships and two region championships at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, and she is a captain of Georgia’s prestigious Tophat Soccer Club.

“Ella will bring much-needed depth to our backline,” Ambrose said on Signing Day. “She reads the game at a very high level and her distribution coming out of the back is a big, big strength that will help us play out of pressure.”

The Under-18 United States Women’s National Team kicks off in La Manga, Spain, against England on March 2. It will face the Netherlands on March 4 before finishing the three-game friendly tournament against Norway on March 6.
