Soccer opens with Belmont Sunday

Aug. 13, 2010

NASHVILLE — The Commodore women’s soccer team plays host to neighboring Belmont this Sunday, August 15, at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.

Admission to the exhibition match is free. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at the conclusion of Vanderbilt’s annual fan day, Dore Jam.

Head Coach Ronnie Woodard’s 2010 roster includes nine fourth- and fifth-year players. Preseason All-Southeastern Conference selection Molly Kinsella has led the Commodores in scoring in each of past three seasons.

Vanderbilt returns 18 letterwinners from a 2009 squad that went 11-8-1 and earned a berth into the SEC Tournament. As many as nine newcomers could get their first look on Sunday, including seven freshmen and a pair of transfers.

Sunday’s match is Vanderbilt’s only exhibition this year. On Thursday, Belmont dropped its opening exhibition match at Samford, 1-0. Vanderbilt will open the 2010 regular season in Birmingham next weekend, traveling to face UAB on August 20.

Fans attending Dore Jam, located adjacent to the VU Soccer Complex at the John Rich Practice Facility, can park at no cost in the lots located along Natchez Trace between Vanderbilt Place and Blakemore Avenue.

Due to construction at the McGugin Center, those coming at 6 p.m. for the soccer match are encouraged to park in the 25th Avenue Garage, utilizing the Highland Avenue entrance, then walking between the tennis courts and the Currey Tennis Center to the field entrance.
