Soccer Opens Conference Play at No. 9 South Carolina

Vanderbilt will play the next three of four matches on the road

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer opens the 2023 conference portion of the schedule Friday night at No. 9 South Carolina.

Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT and the match will be shown on SECN+. This will be the second-ranked opponent the Dores have faced so far this season.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Commodores currently lead the overall series 15-9-7
  • The two programs met for the first time during the 1995 season when Vanderbilt shutout South Carolina 3-0
  • Last season’s meeting in Nashville resulted in a 2-1 win for Vanderbilt off a goal from Raegan Kelley in the final minutes of the match

LAST TIME ON THE PITCH

On Sunday, Vanderbilt dominated Middle Tennessee in a 6-0 victory in the first-ever collegiate match at GEODIS Park. The Commodores outshot the Blue Raiders 12-2, limiting them to just one shot in each frame. The Dores saw goals from Rachel Deresky (2), Caroline Betts, Mia Castillo and Courtney Jones while Middle Tennessee put up an own goal in the 29th minute.

2022 SEC RECAP

  • Vanderbilt finished conference play 5-3-2, tied for second in the East Division and fifth overall
  • The Dores took down No. 24 South Carolina, 2-1, in a thriller that involved two Commodore goals in the final 20 minutes of action
  • Vanderbilt went 3-1-1 in the home portion of the SEC schedule, falling to LSU and drawing Georgia
  • On the road, Vanderbilt finished 2-2-1, topping Florida and Missouri
