NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt forward Haley Hopkins received SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the SEC announced today.
It was the third SEC honor of the year for Hopkins as she has received the Freshman of the Week honors once before and has also earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Hopkins helped lead the No. 12 Commodores’ offensive attack this past weekend that saw them score seven goals in two games. She scored her team-high 12thgoal in the 83rd minute against Kentucky en route to the team’s 4-1 victory. She also added two assists in the game giving her six on the year, which is also the most on the team.
She posted seven shots in the 3-0 win over Auburn, and she drew a foul in the box that set up the game’s first goal on a penalty kick by Grace Jackson.
Hopkins has led the way offensively for the Dores and finds herself amongst the conference leaders in multiple statistical categories. She is second in points (30), tied for second in goals (12) and tied for fourth in game-winning goals (4).
The redshirt freshman has stepped up in her first year of conference play, as well. During SEC games, she is currently first in points (17), tied for first in goals (7) and tied for second in points per game (1.89) and goals per game (0.78).
The Dores clinched the SEC regular season championship after defeating Kentucky on Sunday. It was the program’s first conference championship since 1994.
Hopkins and the Dores wrap up the regular season on Thursday at Ole Miss at 6 p.m. After that, they’ll head to Orange Beach, Alabama, as the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament.
