Soccer Home Game Friday vs. UAB at 7:00 p.m. 9/14/2006 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule this weekend with a pair of games at the VU Soccer Complex. The Commodores host UAB on Friday at 7 p.m. and will face neighboring school Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 2 p.m. Vanderbilt is 2-1-3 on the year after defeating Saint Mary’s, 1-0, and tying No. 14 Cal, 0-0, last weekend at the SMC Fall Classic in Moraga, Calif. The Commodores are ranked No. 6 in the Central Region this week by Soccer America and No. 13 by Soccer Buzz. UAB is 1-4 on the year after picking up its first win last Sunday against Alabama, 1-0 in overtime. The Commodores defeated the Blazers last year in Birmingham, 1-0, and hold an 8-1 all-time series advantage. Middle Tennessee is 5-1 this season after dropping its first game of the year, a 2-1 overtime decision to Tennessee last Sunday in Knoxville. The Blue Raiders are receiving votes in the Soccer Buzz’ Central Region rankings. The teams met for the first time in 2005, with Vanderbilt coming away with a 2-0 win in Murfreesboro. After this weekend’s action, the Commodores will open SEC play on the road next weekend against LSU and Arkansas. |
