Soccer Falls to No. 18 Kentucky

Vanderbilt hosts Missouri on Friday night.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Vanderbilt soccer fell 2-0 to divisional-foe No. 18 Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats struck first on a penalty kick after a foul in the box. This is the first penalty kick the Dores have given up this season. Ulfa Ulfarsdottir netted the PK to put Kentucky up 1-0 heading into the break.

The Commodores got off four shots in the first frame and controlled 52 percent of the possession.

Kentucky extended the lead in the 49th minute when Maya Lacognato passed her defender and found the back of the net to put the Wildcats up 2-0.

Vanderbilt took a 7-3 edge on corner kicks and outshot Kentucky 8-6.

“We didn’t work hard enough as a collective group and too many individuals made too many elementary errors for us to win this game,” said head coach Darren Ambrose. “We didn’t implement the games plan on the field we had put in place. We lacked the bite and toughness, which is a minimum expectation we have to bring to games and credit to Kentucky as they did. When you don’t do those things you end up on the wrong side of the score line which we did today.”
