Soccer Earns Two SEC Honors

Sydney Watts and Reagan Pentz recognized for Vandy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of Commodores earned SEC weekly honors after a 2-0 weekend that saw No. 21 Vanderbilt record wins over RV Mississippi State and No. 4 Tennessee. Sydney Watts was named Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year, while Reagan Pentz was named Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career.

Pentz, a midfielder out of Broadview Heights, Ohio, registered her first career goal to give Vanderbilt a 1-0 advantage nine minutes into the match over No. 4 Tennessee. The Dores went on to beat the Volunteers 2-0, marking the program’s first win over a top-5 program. In the 5-1 win at Mississippi State, Pentz provided an immediate spark in the midfield and was active throughout the match, helping Vanderbilt dominate possession and maintain tempo in the attacking third.

Watts, a forward out of Lenexa, Kansas, recorded two goals and one assist across victories over Mississippi State and No. 4 Tennessee. Watts was electric in the Commodores’ 5-1 road win at Mississippi State, tallying one goal and one assist. Against Tennessee, she sealed the game with a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute to secure the Commodores’ first-ever top-five win. Watts finished the week with seven points, putting her at a career-best 24 on the year. The junior also earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 7.

Pentz, Watts and the Commodores travel to No. 8 South Carolina in the regular season finale. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m. CT and can be watched on SEC Network.
