ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Top-seeded Vanderbilt will face No. 8 Florida on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. CT to being its stint at the SEC Tournament.
The Commodores had a first-round bye while Florida defeated No. 9 Auburn in penalty kicks, 2-1, on Sunday.
This will be the second matchup of the SEC series this season, with the Dores having won the earlier contest, 2-1, at Florida on Sept. 16. Paola Ellis scored the game-winning goal in the 88thminute to seal the victory for the Dores.
The Commodores head into the SEC Tournament as the top seed in the bracket. They clinched their third SEC regular season championship in program history after finishing league play with an 8-1-1 record and 25 points.
The Dores boast the conference’s leading net defender in Lauren Demarchi. She continues to lead the SEC in goals against average (0.37) and save percentage (.889).
The Dores also headlined the conference soccer awards earlier this week. Darren Ambrose was named SEC Coach of the Year and Haley Hopkins was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Hopkins also was named to the All SEC First-Team and Freshman Team.
Grace Jackson was the team’s other First-Team selection and Nia Dorsey was its lone selection to the Second Team. Ella Shamburger rounded up the awards as an All-Freshman Team honoree.All SEC Tournament games this week can be viewed on the SEC Network.
