NASHVILLE – Head Coach Ronnie Woodard had eight student-athletes sign on to play soccer at Vanderbilt on the first day of the National Signing Period, Feb. 2.
Woodard collected eight signatures from players in five different states, including a trio of Texas prep standouts. The impressive group spans all positions on the field and should be able to make an immediate impact on a Commodore squad that graduates nine players this May.
The Commodores’ 2011 signing class includes:

Taylor Elliott (Forward; Massapequa, N.Y.; Massapequa; Massapequa Storm)
Gena Inbusch (Forward; Columbus, Ohio; Upper Arlington; Ohio Premier)
Cherrelle Jarrett (Defender; Lilburn, Ga.; Parkview; GSA Phoenix)
Ashley Oswald (Midfielder, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; St. Thomas Aquinas; Team Boca)
Taylor Richardson (Defender; Tampa, Fla.; Berkeley Prep; Clearwater Chargers)
Brittney Thomas (Defender; Colleyville, Texas; Colleyville Heritage; Dallas Sting)
Ashley Vega (Defender; Frisco, Texas; Wakeland; FC Dallas)
“We are so excited to welcome our Class of 2011 to the Vanderbilt family,” Woodard said. “Each of these special players will bring a wealth of soccer experiences, a true competitive spirit and a tenacious training mentality. Their impact on our program will be felt immediately.”
Notes on the incoming class: Richardson and Oswald were named two of the top 11 players in the state of Florida, according to ESPN RISE; Jarrett was identified as a top-five player in the South Atlantic region by Top Drawer Soccer; Barbero and Vega are high school teammates for the Wakeland Wolverines in Frisco, Texas, while Thomas and Barbero play on the same club team, the Dallas Sting.
