No. 22 Kentucky downs Vanderbilt 5-2 in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. — In an outdoor road match at No. 22 Kentucky, Vanderbilt couldn’t quite dig itself out of an early hole to break its current skid in falling 5-2 to the Wildcats.

Kentucky (14-3, 4-2 SEC) took control of the momentum by taking the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Jeremie Casabon and Connor Robb-Wilcox battled at No. 3, but the unfinished match ended 4-3.

In singles, Kentucky quickly grabbed straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 6 to clinch the match.

The Commodores (4-8, 0-6 SEC) got on the board via a Casabon win at No. 4 in straight sets (7-6 (4), 6-2). Max Freeman also split sets at No. 5 and won a third-set tiebreaker with a 10-7 win.

Vanderbilt will return to action on Sunday versus No. 37 Middle Tennessee on West End for its final scheduled nonconference weekend match of the season. The first serve at Currey Tennis Center is set for 9 a.m.
