NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer placed six student-athletes on the SEC Preseason Watchlist, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. Commodores included on the list are Courtney Jones, Hannah McLaughlin, Mary Beth McLaughlin, Maci Teater, Sydney Watts and Sara Wojdelko.
Jones, a midfielder out of Orlando, Florida, started all 21 contests for the Dores during the 2024 season. The junior registered a career-best 14 points off five goals and four assists as the Commodores reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Hannah McLaughlin, a defender out of Cummings, Georgia, made 19 starts for the black and gold in 2024. The senior was named first-team All-SEC and United Soccer Coaches fourth-team all-region after anchoring a defense that allowed only 19 goals in the season and posted nine shutouts.
Mary Beth McLaughin, a defender out of Cummings, Georgia, appeared in 16 matches, making four starts and logging over 580 minutes of play during her rookie season. The sophomore dished her first career assist in the 2024 conference opener at Auburn and was named SEC All-Freshman Team.
Teater, a midfielder out of St. Louis, started in all 21 matches for Vanderbilt in 2024 and dished a team-high-tying six assists. The senior scored her first career goal in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Lipscomb and helped control a midfield that took down reigning national champion Florida State to advance to the Sweet 16.
Watts, a junior out of Lenexa, Kansas, led the team with nine goals last season and dished an assist to register a career-best 19 points. The forward posted the second brace of her career in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Lipscomb, with her first brace coming earlier in the season against Saint Mary’s (Calif.).
Wojdelko, a graduate out of Northville, Michigan, is back in goal after leading the Commodores to a historic season in 2024. The shot stopper made 14 saves in Vanderbilt’s penalty kick win over Florida State to advance to the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance. Her 14 stops were the most in a single game since Christy Barringer in 1992.
The Commodores kick off the 2025 season at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex on Thursday at 7 p.m. The match can be seen on SEC Network+.
