ATLANTA – Four Vanderbilt men’s tennis student-athletes competed in the singles quarterfinals of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Sunday at the Ken Byers Tennis Center.
Sophomore Macsen Sisam marked his spot in the semifinals of the Olde Gold draw taking down Mississippi State’s Ocana, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
In the semifinals, the sophomore faced Georgia Tech’s Marcus McDaniel. Sisam commanded a strong start, taking down McDaniel, 7-5 in the first set. Marking his spot in the finals, Sisam bested McDaniel 6-3 to claim the match.
Three Commodores fell short in the quarterfinals. In the Olde Gold draw, sophomore Christiaan Worst fell to Georgia Tech’s Keshav Chopra, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
In the White draw, junior George Harwell battled against Clemson’s Teodor Giusca falling 6-4, 6-3 followed by freshman James Ignatowich coming up short to Tennessee’s Giles Hussey, 6-2, 6-1 to conclude his run in the singles main draw.
In the consolation matches of their respective draws, the Dores closed out the day picking up six victories with junior Adam Sraberg advancing to the finals of the Navy consolation draw and sophomore Marcus Ferreira earning his spot in the finals of the White Consolation draw.
The Commodores will begin play in the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Moday at 7 a.m. CT opening with the doubles finals followed by the final round of singles.
