NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Wednesday, Cole Sherwood, a 2024 Vanderbilt Alum, was named to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American men’s at-large team, making him the first Vanderbilt men’s golfer in program history to earn the distinction.
Sherwood was named to the CSC Communicators second-team Academic All-American men’s at-large team, as he was one of just 12 NCAA Division I golfers to be honored. Sherwood has been racking up the academic honors this season. In addition to his historic selection to the CSC Academic All-America selection, he was named the 2023-24 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, earned a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll for the third time in his career, and was selected to the CSC Academic All-District team. He graduated from Vanderbilt in May with a bachelor’s degree in human and organizational development.
The Austin, Texas, native had a spectacular final season in the black and gold. Sherwood picked up his third GCAA Division I PING All-America team selection, posting a stroke average of 70.22 through 12 tournaments. The All-American won the 2023 Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational in October to claim his third career collegiate win. Sherwood collected four top-five finishes and placed inside the top 10 seven times during the 2023-24 season. He finished No. 7 in the PGA Tour University rankings to earn condition status on the Korn Ferry Tour and full exemption status for the North America Swing of PGA TOUR Americas for the remainder of the season. Sherwood recently made his PGA Tour Debut earlier in July at the John Deere Classic.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America team student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and compete in 70 percent of tournaments that were team scoring events. The CSC Academic All-America men’s at-large team consists of student-athletes who compete at the NCAA Division I level in ice hockey, lacrosse, water polo, fencing, rifle, skiing, golf, gymnastics, volleyball, and wrestling.
