NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Tuesday, the College Sports Communicators announced that Cole Sherwood and Jackson Van Paris from the Vanderbilt men’s golf team were selected to the CSC Academic All-District men’s at-large team for their excellent performance on the golf course and in the classroom.
It is the second straight year that Sherwood has been named to the CSC Academic All-District men’s at-large team, while it is Van Paris’ first selection. Both student-athletes advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced on July 17.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District team student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and compete in 70 percent of tournaments that were team scoring events. The CSC Academic All-District men’s at-large team consists of student-athletes who compete at the NCAA Division I level in ice hockey, lacrosse, water polo, fencing, rifle, skiing, golf, gymnastics, volleyball, and wrestling.
Sherwood graduated from Vanderbilt in May with a bachelor’s degree in human and organizational development. The Austin, Texas, native picked up his third GCAA Division I PING All-America team selection to conclude his Commodore career. Sherwood had a spectacular final season in the black and gold, posting a stroke average of 70.22 through 12 tournaments. The All-American won the 2023 Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational in October to claim his third career collegiate win. Sherwood collected four top-five finishes and placed inside the top 10 seven times during the 2023-24 season. He finished No. 7 in the PGA Tour University rankings and made his Korn Ferry Tour debut this week at the BMW Charity Pro-Am.
Van Paris, a human and organizational development major, earned his first GCAA All-America honorable mention selection this season. The Pinehurst, North Carolina, native scored his first collegiate victory at the 2023 St Andrews Links Collegiate, winning stroke play with a two-round total of 9-under 131. The junior made his PGA Tour debut at the 2024 Puerto Rico Open in March, finishing in a tie for 10th. Van Paris went a perfect 3-0-0 in match play at the 2024 SEC Championship, posted four top-10 finishes, and held a scoring average of 70.67 during the 2023-24 season.
The Vanderbilt men’s golf team advanced to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships for the 10th straight time in 2023-24. The Commodores finished second in stroke play at the 2024 NCAA Championships to advance to match play for the seventh time in program history.
