Vanderbilt junior guard Ryan Seymour was recognized by the Southeastern Conference on Monday for his strong play in the Commodores’ 44-21 win over Army on Saturday night.
The Kingsland, Ga., native was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after he played a key role in Vanderbilt’s line paving the way for the Commodores to gain a season-high 530 yards, including 344 on the ground. Of the 344 yards rushing, junior running back Zac Stacy gained 198 of them in what was the third-highest rushing total in school history by a Vanderbilt player.
Seymour registered seven knockdown blocks in just his third game at left guard after starting the season at both tackle positions. Seymour also had five blocks in the game that led to either touchdowns or first downs.
Seymour and the Vanderbilt line also did not allow a quarterback sack by Army and helped Vanderbilt own an eight-minute advantage in time of possession.
The Vanderbilt guard is the fourth Commodore to earn a weekly honor from the SEC and the first since the third week of the season when Trey Wilson (Defensive Player of the Week) and Wesley Johnson (Offensive Lineman) were honored. Rob Lohr was named Defensive Lineman of the Week after Vanderbilt’s win over UConn.
