NASHVILLE, Tenn. — It was a successful Saturday for the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team at the Commodore Invitational. The Dores finished with five singles wins and two doubles victories on a sunny afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center.
Marcus Ferriera, Joubert Klopper, George Harwell, Michael Ross and Max Freeman each won in singles, while Klopper/Ferriera also won their doubles match in addition to Macsen Sisam and Connor Robb-Wilcox. All of Vanderbilt’s matches on the second day of the invitational were against North Carolina opponents, and all were played outside after competing inside Friday.
Harwell defeated a nationally-ranked opponent for the second straight day. He battled to a 7-5, 6-4 win over No. 44 Cernoch. Freeman and Klopper also won their second singles match in as many days with Klopper topping Kiger in back-to-back tiebreakers, 7-6, 7-6, and Freeman cruised 6-2, 6-1 over Watane.
Ross earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Dillon, while Ferreira defeated Zapp, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, Klopper/Ferriera won for the second straight day with an 8-4 result over McKinney/Guerroro Melgar. The Commodores split the four doubles matches with Sisam/Robb-Wilcox defeating Watane/Dillon, 8-2.
Competition resumes Sunday at 9 a.m. with Vanderbilt scheduled to start at noon.
The Commodore Invitational wraps up the Fall schedule for Vanderbilt. The Commodores will be back in action in late January with the complete Spring schedule to be announced soon.
