Seven home games on 'Dores' 2017 football schedule

Sept. 13, 2016

The Commodores will play seven football games on campus next year, Vanderbilt Athletics and the Southeastern Conference announced Sept. 13.

Vanderbilt is scheduled to open 2017 season on the road, facing Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro on Saturday, Sept. 2. The MTSU game would end a streak of four straight Thursday night home openers for the Commodores.

After facing Middle Tennessee, the Commodores return to Vanderbilt Stadium for three consecutive home games, starting with Alabama A&M on Saturday, Sept. 9, and Kansas State from the Big 12 Conference on Saturday, Sept. 16.

After playing Kansas State for the first time since 1984, Vanderbilt moves into SEC action on Saturday, Sept. 30 when it hosts Alabama. The Commodores and Crimson Tide have not met since 2011, and not played on the Vanderbilt campus since the 2007 season.

The Alabama game starts a difficult four-game conference stretch for the Commodores. After hosting the Tide, Vanderbilt travels to Florida on Sept. 30, hosts Georgia on Oct. 7, and journeys to Ole Miss on Oct. 14.

After a bye Oct. 21, the Commodores return to action Oct. 28 with a trip to face South Carolina in Columbia.

The Commodores open play in November with three straight home games, starting with Conference USA opponent Western Kentucky on Nov. 4. The home stretch also includes SEC East games against Kentucky on Nov. 11 and Missouri on Nov. 18.

The Commodores will conclude the 2017 regular season at Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 25.
