Seckar an SEC Legend

Former Commodore guard will be honored at upcoming conference tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Vanderbilt men’s basketball guard Frank Seckar will be recognized at the upcoming SEC Tournament after it was announced Wednesday that he has been selected to participate in the SEC Men’s Legends Presented by Allstate®.

Featuring former greats from all 14 Southeastern Conference member institutions, the SEC Men’s Legends Presented by Allstate® will be honored at the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament March 13-17 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Each legend will be recognized during halftime of their team’s first game of the tournament, as well as a group introduction at halftime of the first semifinal game on Saturday.

A four-year letterwinner from 1993-96, Seckar twice garnered All-SEC recognition after earning second-team honors as a senior and third-team recognition the previous year while he also was named second-team Academic All-America as a senior. A two-time team captain, he was selected to the NIT All-Tournament Team in 1994 and was a three-time Academic All-SEC in his time at Vanderbilt.

Seckar still ranks among top 30 in school history with 1,317 points in his four-year career, which included leading team in scoring with 16.3 points per game his senior season. He remains tied for the career record in program history with 214 steals, highlighted by a school-record eight in a game against Tennessee Tech in November 1994, and he also still stands among the top five with 455 assists and 278 3-point field goals after connecting on 41.9 percent from beyond the arc during his career.

Originally from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, he recorded 176 assists and 103 3-point field goals when he was a senior—totals that still rank second and third, respectively, on the Commodores’ season record list—while he also led Vandy in steals each of his last two years including posting 73 his junior campaign, a total that continues to stand second in the Dores’ record book.
