SEC Soccer Tournament Seeding and Scenarios 10/28/2003 With one weekend of regular-season SEC women’s soccer action remaining, five teams have clinched a berth for the 2003 SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament. However, of the five teams who have qualified, seedings in this year’s SEC Tournament will come down to the final weekend of exciting soccer action. The 2003 SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament is a single-elimination tournament of the top eight teams in the conference based on winning percentage of conference games (regardless of division). Seeding is also based on conference winning percentage regardless of division. The tie-breakers are as follows:
1. Head-to-Head competition 2. Goal Differential in all Conference games 3. Goals Scored in all Conference games
Here’s a look at the six teams that have earned berths and the four teams vying for the final three spots as we head into the last weekend of SEC regular season play (SEC record, conference goal differential and conference goals scored in parentheses):
HEADED TO ORANGE BEACH
Tennessee (6-1-1, +14, 20) Tennessee has clinched their sixth straight SEC Tournament berth and seventh appearance overall. Tennessee will be the 1st or 2nd seed in the Tournament. UT will earn the top seed with a win. They can also earn the #1 seed with a tie if Auburn wins by less than nine goals or with a loss if Auburn loses or ties. Tennessee did not play Auburn and defeated Florida, 2-0. Tennessee plays at Georgia on Friday.
Auburn (5-1-2, +6, 11) Auburn has clinched their third straight SEC Tournament berth and eighth appearance overall. Auburn will be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd seed in the Tournament. AU will earn the top seed with a win and a Tennessee loss. Auburn could also earn the top seed with a Tennessee tie if the Tigers win by nine goals. Auburn did not play Tennessee and lost to Florida, 0-1. Auburn plays at Alabama on Friday.
Florida (5-2-1 +7, 13) Florida has clinched their ninth straight SEC Tournament berth and ninth appearance overall. Florida will be the 2nd or 3rd seed in the Tournament. UF will earn the #2 seed with a win coupled with an Auburn loss or tie. Florida defeated Auburn, 1-0, Ole Miss, 1-0, and lost to Tennessee, 0-2. Florida hosts South Carolina on Saturday.
Ole Miss (4-3-1, +6, 13) Ole Miss has clinched their seventh straight SEC Tournament berth and seventh appearance overall. Ole Miss will be the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th seed in the Tournament. UM will earn the #4 seed with a win. They would also earn the #4 seed with a tie if Georgia loses or ties and South Carolina loses, ties or wins by less than five goals. Ole Miss did not play Kentucky, tied South Carolina, 0-0, lost to Florida, 0-1 and Georgia, 1-2. Ole Miss hosts Mississippi State on Friday.
Kentucky (4-3-2, +2, 14) Kentucky has clinched their 11th straight berth in the SEC Tournament UK is the only school that has appeared in every SEC Tournament. Kentucky will be the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th seed in the Tournament. UK will earn the #4 seed with an Ole Miss loss and losses or ties by both Georgia and South Carolina. Kentucky did not play Ole Miss and lost to South Carolina, 1-2, and Georgia, 0-1.

Georgia (4-4-0, +1, 14) Georgia can clinch their fifth straight SEC Tournament berth and seventh appearance overall with a win or tie. The Bulldogs also can earn a berth despite a loss if Alabama loses or ties. If Georgia loses and Alabama wins, the combined point differential must be 10 or less for UG to earn a berth. Georgia did not play Alabama, defeated South Carolina, 2-1, and lost to Vandy, 0-1. UG hosts Tennessee on Friday.
South Carolina (3-3-2, +1, 8) South Carolina can clinch their second straight SEC Tournament berth and fourth appearance overall with a win or tie. The Gamecocks also can earn a berth despite a loss if Alabama loses or ties. If South Carolina loses and Alabama wins, the combined point differential must be 10 or less for SC to earn a berth. South Carolina defeated Alabama, 2-0, lost to Vandy, 0-1, and lost to Georgia, 1-2. SC plays at Florida on Saturday.
Vanderbilt (3-4-2, -3, 8) Vanderbilt can clinch their first SEC Tournament berth since 2001 and 10th appearance overall with a Georgia loss, a South Carolina loss or an Alabama loss, tie or win by less than six goals. Vanderbilt defeated Georgia, 1-0, defeated South Carolina, 1-0, and tied Alabama, 0-0. VU has completed its SEC schedule.
Alabama (2-4-2, -9, 9) Alabama can clinch their first SEC Tournament berth since 1998 and sixth appearance overall with a win over Auburn by six or more goals. The Crimson Tide did not play Georgia, lost to South Carolina, 0-2, and tied Vanderbilt, 0-0. With a win by six or more goals they would earn the second tiebreaker over Vanderbilt. UA hosts Auburn on Friday. |
