NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the second consecutive week, Vanderbilt kicker Brock Taylor has been named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Taylor made both field goal attempts and both extra points in Vandy’s 20-13 victory at Kentucky. His 49-yard field goal midway through the third quarter gave the Commodores a two-possession lead and he added a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to provide Vandy’s final points of the game. He added a touchdown-saving tackle on a kickoff return in the third quarter.
The Knoxville, Tennessee, native is the first Vanderbilt kicker to make four field goals of 50-plus yards since Carey Spear (2012-13). The win over the Wildcats marked the third straight contest and fifth time in six games this season he has made multiple field goals in a game.
Taylor was SEC Special Teams Player of the Week last week after making a pair of field goals, including a 51-yarder, in Vandy’s 40-35 win over top-ranked Alabama.
He is the second Vanderbilt player since the SEC instituted weekly awards in 1985 to win the same award in consecutive weeks. Quarterback Eric Jones was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, 1987, after engineering wins over Rutgers and Kentucky, respectively.
Taylor and the Commodores return to action on Saturday, hosting Ball State for a 6 p.m. contest at FirstBank Stadium. Tickets are still available.
