NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer opens conference play at home Sunday afternoon hosting Georgia in a 1 p.m. kickoff. The match can be seen on SEC Network+.
Vanderbilt (5-0-3, 0-0-1) is coming off a draw on the conference opener on Thursday evening at No. 6 Auburn. Rachel Deresky put the ball in the back of the net to open the scoring and mark the first goal conceded by the Tigers this season. Auburn responded with an equalizer and then the go-ahead goal midway through the second half. Abi Brighton responded to tie the match with a goal off a throw-in to give the final result.
In the last three matches, Deresky has posted 11 points off five goals and three assists. Transfer Maci Teater has dished five assists this season, which is more than any individual last season. Teater currently sits third in the conference in most assists in 2024. As a team, the Commodores have tallied 21 assists so far this season off 25 goals.
Georgia (4-3-2,0-1) is coming off a 2-1 loss to South Carolina in the conference opener on Thursday. Margie Detrizio leads the Dawgs with 13 points off six goals and an assist while Summer Denigan scored Georgia’s only goal of SEC play. Keeper Jordan Brown has played every match this season posting 50 saves but giving up 10 goals.
Vandy leads the all-time series 15-13-2. Last season, Vandy fell 2-1 in Athens with its lone goal coming from Tina Bruni.
The Commodores are set to celebrate Alumni Weekend at Sunday’s contest with a special halftime celebration that will honor the 2019 East Division Championship team.
