Commodores add multiple, season and career bests on final day of first postseason meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Bailey Ratzburg and Amelia Harper recorded best career swims to move up the top 10 on Vanderbilt swimming’s all-time performer list in another event to lead the Commodores Saturday on the last day of the SEC Championships at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

The pair achieved the feat in the 200 IM to begin the day and were joined by four other individuals who posted career-low times in the 100 free in the morning.

“It was a successful week, we’re really, really happy about the results and excited about the team moving forward. It has been a lot of fun this year,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “This week was a big learning experience for the group that is coming back, there’s a lot they can take and put into next year’s team as we continue to grow the program. We’re really excited about the future.”

Vanderbilt will return to the pool when select individuals compete next weekend at an NCAA Last Chance Meet at a site to be determined.

Meet Highlights
-Ratzburg paced Vandy in the 200 IM to start the final morning of the meet.
-The Dores had nine individuals compete in prelims of the 100 free, with Melissa Cowen leading the group.
-Aubrey Hull was the Commodores’ top finisher in the 100 back, ending up among the top 35 overall.
-In Vandy’s final race of the competition, the quartet of Hull, Cowen, Kate Heintz and Ratzburg swam the 400 free relay.

Notes
-The Dores finished the meet with a total of 146 points.
-Over the course of five days, Vandy saw individuals post six individual and four relay marks that now rank among the top 10 all-time in program history.
-In addition, Commodores recorded career-best times on 18 occasions and added 15 season-low marks.
-With a time of 2:02.83 in the 200 IM, Ratzburg moved up on the Commodores’ all-time performer list into seventh place.
-Harper entered the top 10 all-time in the event at Vandy, coming in ninth, after finishing the race in 2:03.16.
-Of the nine Vanderbilt swimmers in the 100 free, four posted career-low times in their race: Cowen (51.52), Kate Heintz (51.64), Emily Constable (52.47) and Elayne Chen (52.81).
-In fact, it was the first time in her collegiate career that Heintz has competed in the event.
-Ryen Bosuro recorded a season-best 51.70 mark in the 100 free in the final race of her collegiate career.
-In the 200 back, Grace Ciaramitaro had her fastest time of the season after touching the wall in 1:59.80.
-Vandy’s 3:24.67 mark in the 400 free relay was also a season-best figure.
