NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s golf team will make its 2022-23 debut Friday when it competes at the Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, California.
Hosted by Mississippi State, the three-day, 54-hole tournament is held at the Pebble Beach Links Golf Course.
“I’m not going to lie, I’ve been very jealous of our men’s team getting to make this trip the last 10 years,” Vandy head coach Greg Allen said. “I am beyond grateful that our women get to experience one of the most iconic golf courses in the world this weekend. I can’t thank tournament founder Fin Ewing enough for inviting us to the Carmel Cup.”
Vandy, coming off an NCAA Regional championship in May and 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Championships, returns seniors Celina Sattelkau, Tess Davenport and Jayna Choi to the squad as well as juniors Ariel Yu and Virginie Ding. Sattelkau, Davenport and Ding will be in the lineup this weekend in California along with Natasha Kiel and newcomers Tillie Claggett and Lynn Lim.
Lim, a freshman from Gallatin, and Claggett, a freshman from The Woodlands, Texas, will both be making their respective Vandy debuts.
The Commodores will join Mississippi State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Oklahoma in the eight-team field playing at the par 72, 6,158-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links course.
“I’m excited to get the season started,” Allen said. “We’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of these two talented freshmen in Lynn and Tillie. They are very fortunate to have great senior leadership in Celina, Tess and Jayna.”
Vanderbilt is scheduled to tee off at 8:58 a.m. CT and will be paired with Mississippi State and Stanford on Friday. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
