Vanderbilt set to face six ranked opponents

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse features 11 home games for the upcoming 2020 season, highlighting the 17-game schedule announced Monday by head coach Beth Hewitt.

The Commodores face a rigorous schedule of matchups with six top-20 teams, according to the NCAA end-of-season RPI poll. Seven of Vanderbilt’s opponents also appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2019.

The Commodores begin the season with a three-game road trip against Wagner (Feb. 9), No. 2 Boston College (Feb. 16) and Kennesaw State (Feb. 19). Boston College was the 2019 runner-up after losing 12-10 to Maryland in the championship game.

Vanderbilt’s home opener is set for Feb. 22 against Lehigh and is immediately followed by a visit from Louisville on Feb. 25. Vanderbilt battled to a 9-8 overtime victory against Louisville in overtime in 2019.

The Commodores stay at home for the next four games to host four of the nation’s top teams. Vanderbilt’s spring break homestand features the likes of No. 9 Denver (March 1), No. 10 Michigan (March 4), No. 17 Penn State and No. 14 Notre Dame (March 11).

Vanderbilt travels to Winthrop on March 15 before returning to Nashville for two final home games against Colgate (March 18) and Virginia Tech (March 22).

The Commodores start American Athletic Conference play at Temple on March 28. They host No. 8 Florida (April 4) and Cincinnati (April 11) and then head to Connecticut (April 19).

The Dores conclude conference play in Nashville on April 25 against East Carolina for senior day.

The 2020 conference tournament is set for April 30-May 2 at East Carolina.

The Commodores enjoyed one of their more successful seasons to date in 2019 with their first postseason appearance since 2014. Vanderbilt finished with a 10-6 record for their first 10-win season since 2010 when they went 12-6.

Vanderbilt’s six wins at home last season marked its most in a season since winning six home games in 2012.
