Satterfield Reaches Quarterfinals at ITF Ann Arbor

Dores conclude first ITF tournament of fall season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Freshman Jack Satterfield reached the singles quarterfinals of the ITF M15 Ann Arbor as the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team concluded its first ITF tournament of the fall season from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Dores began with two in the singles qualifying draw: senior Tighe Brunetti and junior Hugo Coquelin. Brunetti fell in his qualifying opener 6-3, 6-2 to Oskar Grzegorzewski of UTSA. Coquelin matched up against Penn’s Kian Vakili in the first round, downing the American 6-1, 6-4. In the second round of qualifying, Coquelin faced Roman Venger from Utah State for a spot in the main draw. Venger took a first set lead and held on throughout the match, eventually ending Coquelin’s tournament 6-3, 7-5.

Vandy’s two pairs of doubles teams, Brunetti and sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez as well as Satterfield and Coquelin, drew each other in the first round. It was the combination of Brunetti and Martinez Gomez who came out on top of their fellow teammates 6-4, 6-3. The Dore duo battled through three sets in their next matchup against Reece Falk and Matthew Thomson, the tournament’s No. 3 seed. Martinez Gomez and Brunetti notched a tiebreak win in the first set 7-6 (7), but dropped the second 4-6. With the momentum shifting, Falk and Thomson closed out the final frame 10-6 to claim the match victory.

Satterfield and Martinez Gomez opened their tournaments in the singles main draw. After both picked up straight-set wins in their first match, it was again a battle of Dores as the two drew each other in the second round. Satterfield avenged the doubles loss to his teammate, besting the No. 84 ranked Martinez Gomez 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the singles quarterfinals. No. 2 seed Raphael Perot, who graduated from Texas A&M in 2024, controlled the quarterfinal match against Satterfield after the first, taking the opening set 6-3. The Frenchman maintained the lead throughout the second, finishing off Satterfield 6-1 to eliminate Vanderbilt’s final competitor.

The Dores return to play this Friday in Murfreesboro at the Couch Bouldin Shootout hosted by MTSU. For more information, updates and exclusive content, follow the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, @VandyWTennis, on Instagram and X.
