GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Vanderbilt sophomore Celina Sattelkau carded an even-par 70 on Sunday during the opening round of the Lady Gators Invitational and is three strokes off the lead going into Monday’s play.
Sattelkau, tied for fourth, found four birdies on the Mark Bostick Golf Course in what proved to be a tough day for most every team and participant. Vandy finished 20-over-par as a squad and is in 11th place in the 14-team field.
Central Florida (+3) leads the tournament after the opening day while Florida’s Annabell Fuller is in first with a one-stroke lead at 3-under-par.
“Really proud of the effort we saw from Celina and Tess (Davenport) today,” Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen said. “The golf course played hard and we played like a team that is very rusty.
“I look forward to seeing how tough we can be the next two rounds and what kind of fight we have in us.”
Davenport, a sophomore tied for 33rd, is among the top 40 after her 4-over-par round. Junior Auston Kim and sophomore Jayna Choi each shot 8-over and are tied for 61st while senior Morgan Baxendale finished 10-over and is 71st.
The Commodores will look to climb the leaderboard during Monday’s second round. Live scoring can be found HERE.
