ATHENS, Ga. — Vanderbilt sophomore Celina Sattelkau continued her solid play this season during the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Friday.
Sattelkau shot a 2-under-par 70 at the University of Georgia Golf Course and is six strokes off the lead after 18 holes. The German native carded three birdies Friday.
Vanderbilt as a team finished 11-over-par through the first round and sits in 12th place. LSU shot an even-par 288 to take the team lead after the first day.
“We got off to a really shaky start and just didn’t make enough birdies,” Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen said. “I thought (Louise Yu) did a great job of hanging in there. She was 4-over through three and only shot three over overall. She would’ve hit the panic button her freshman year.
“Celina carried the team today and continues to play solid golf. (Saturday) is a new day and a chance to play the way I know we can play.“
Almost a great trick shot from @CSattelkau but she was JUST short. She ended up shooting par on Hole 6 #AnchorDown #theliz pic.twitter.com/APtVav9KmS
