Sargent Set for The Open Championship

The senior is one of 12 amateur golfers competing at the 152nd Open Championship in Troon, Scotland

TROON, Scotland – Vanderbilt men’s golf junior Gordon Sargent is set to compete in one of golf’s most prestigious events this week, as he will participate in the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon in Troon, Scotland, on July 18-21.

Sargent earned an exemption into the Open Championship after winning the 2023 Mark H. McCormack Medal, which goes to the top-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings following the U.S. Amateur. The senior will be one of 12 amateurs playing in the world’s oldest golf tournament this week.

It is the second major championship for Sargent this summer, as he competed at the 124th U.S. Open last month. Overall, it is Sargent’s fourth major championship event as a Commodore. He played at the Masters and the U.S. Open in 2023 and was the low amateur at the 123rd U.S. Open.

Tee times for the first two rounds of The Open Championship have been set. Sargent’s Round 1 tee time is set for Thursday at 4:20 a.m. CT, while he will tee off Round 2 on Friday at 9:21 a.m. CT. Fans can click the link here for live results for the 152nd Open Championship.

Riedel’s Strong Performance on the Korn Ferry Tour
Vanderbilt alum Matthew Riedel recently collected the best finish of his short professional career this past week at the Ascendant present by Blue on the Korn Ferry Tour. Riedel finished the tournament in a tie for second at 18-under 270 to post his first professional top-10 finish.

Riedel made the move to the top of the leaderboard in Round 3, where he carded 8-under. He shot 6-under 30 over his final nine holes of Round 3, as he collected four birdies and an eagle.

Pro Dores Update
A quartet of Pro Dores will participate in this week’s Barracuda Championship on July 18-21. Will Gordon, Luke List, Matthias Schwab, and Brandt Snedeker are set to compete at the Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California. Fans can click the link here to follow live results.
