NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three Commodores picked up weekly awards from the American Athletic Conference on Monday led by Taylor Sampone who was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Sampone, a sophomore from Rochester, New York, had an AAC-leading six caused turnovers to go with three ground balls in two games. She had four caused turnovers – the most by a player in a conference game this season – with three ground balls in Vanderbilt’s 19-12 win against East Carolina, while she had two caused turnovers in a nonconference loss to Louisville.
Gabby Fornia and Bri Gross were each selected to the conference’s five-player Weekly Honor Roll. Fornia took control of Saturday’s game with six of her seven points coming in the fourth quarter.
Fornia’s fourth goal and seventh point placed her atop Vanderbilt’s all-time points list with 245.
Gross scored her fifth hat trick on the season and her eight draw controls matched a season high.
