Kiera Runske earns first conference honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The American Conference announced its weekly awards Monday afternoon, headlined by Vanderbilt lacrosse sophomore Kiera Runkse, who was named American Defensive Player of the Week. Sophomore Bailey Lower earned honorable mention.

Runkse, a sophomore midfielder, broke a school record for most draw controls in a single game during Friday’s 22-10 win over Cincinnati. The Satellite Beach, Florida, native registered 14 of Vandy’s 22 wins in the circle. The Commodores’ 22 team draw controls also broke a school record for most in a single game.

Lower, a sophomore midfielder, had a career day, scoring six goals and adding two assists for eight points. The Nantucket, Massachusetts, native grabbed six draw controls in the Dores’ win over Cincinnati.

The Commodores return to action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Eastern Michigan. Opening draw is slated for noon and can be seen on ESPN+.
