CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Vanderbilt sophomore Nathan Cox has advanced to the singles quarterfinals and has teamed with senior Jeremie Casabon to reach the doubles semifinals at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship.
Cox picked up one singles and two doubles victories Saturday to give him eight total wins since play began Thursday at Chattanooga’s Champions Club at Riverfront Park.
The tournament’s fourth seed, No. 119 Cox battled past 10th seed Conor Gannon of Memphis to reach the singles quarterfinals. It was the third consecutive three-set win for Cox, who will next face Pau Fanlo of Memphis Sunday morning. The semifinals are scheduled to take place at noon Sunday.
Casabon had also advanced to the singles Round of 16 with a win Thursday followed by a pair of Friday victories. The event’s 12th seed, Casabon lost Saturday to No. 7 seed Leo Raquin of Middle Tennessee.
Seeded second in doubles, No. 40 Casabon and Cox needed a tiebreaker to defeat the ninth-seeded team of Dmitri Badra and Francisco Lamas from East Tennessee State in the Round of 16 Saturday morning.
The Commodore duo returned to the court Saturday afternoon and earned a quarterfinal victory over eighth seed Sam Landau and Ilya Tiraspolsky of Indiana.
Casabon and Cox will now take on Ball State’s Jacks Lancaster and Mason Tran in Sunday’s semifinals.
Saturday’s play also included a pair of Vanderbilt matches in the consolation draws. Mitchell Deames and Joubert Klopper teamed up for a doubles win over Tennessee State while Paul Wang lost his singles match against Kristoffer Stahlbrand of Eastern Kentucky.
