TULSA, Okla. – Opening up the qualifying rounds of the ITA All-Americans, senior Billy Rowe secured his spot in the second round of singles on Monday.
Rowe faced No. 67 Guillermo Cabrera from Notre Dame in the first round of singles. Rowe bested Cabrera in the first set, holding the senior to only one game followed by outlasting Cabrera in the second set, 7-5. With this victory, Rowe marked his spot in the second round of the ITA-Americans.
Continuing his ITA All-American debut, Rowe teamed up with junior Max Freeman to take on the first round of doubles. The duo faced LSU pair Moreno and Thomas. Battling in a close first set, Moreno and Thomas took the first set in the tiebreaker, 7-6 (5) followed by claiming the match in the second set, 6-4.
Concluding their runs in the ITA All-Americans, junior George Harwell and sophomore Macsen Sisam fell short in the first round of singles.
Harwell faced Baylor’s Constantin Frantzen in the opening round. Harwell fell short 6-1 in the first set but bounced back in the second set to earn five games however, Frantzen stepped up to claim the match, 7-5.
Sisam took on Southern California’s Riley Smith in the first round dropping the first set, 6-4. Sisam concluded his stint in the tournament falling short to Smith in the second set, 6-1.
Rowe will look to continue his run in the ITA All-Americans battling in the second round of qualifying singles on Tuesday.
