Johnston sustained a season-ending leg injury for the second consecutive season… The redshirt sophomore saw action at tight end in each of the first five games of the season, including a start against Ole Miss… Regarded as the team[apos]s top blocking tight end, Johnston did not register a reception… Forced to sit out the final seven games after suffering the leg injury at Alabama.
2010
Inserted after an injury to TE Austin Monahan, Johnston steadily improved in his first year on the field until suffering a season-ending knee injury against Kentucky… Played in 10 games, and earned first career start vs. South Carolina… Had six receptions for 56 yards, including a TD catch in win over Eastern Michigan… Had three catches against Kentucky and two receptions vs. Florida.
2009
Contributed as scout team tight end while redshirting during first year on campus… Made team[apos]s Offensive Scout of the Week after Kentucky game.
High School
Four-year varsity letterwinner… As senior, started at tight end for 14-0 Florida 2A champion squad… Finished 2008 with 24 receptions, good for 330 yards while also helping to produce pair of 1,000-yard rushers as quality blocker… Showed toughness, playing through three playoff games with a hamstring pull… Selected to Florida Times-Union[apos]s Super 24 and All-First Coast squads… Bolles went 39-1 in last three years, winning pair of 2A state titles… Four-year varsity starter as center in basketball; currently, averaging 15 points and eight rebounds… Standout on Bolles[apos] weightlifting squad… Outdoor enthusiast: enjoys scuba diving, surfing and skiing.

Karl Mason Johnston Jr… Son of Karl and Susan Johnston… Born Sept. 4, 1990… Has an older sister, Courtney, who plays volleyball at the University of North Carolina… Both parents are involved in real estate business… Three other Bolles teammates are on Commodore roster: FB Ryan van Rensburg, LB Michael Garcia and WR Tray Herndon.
