Bernstein started all 12 games at left guard as a fifth-year senior, running his consecutive starts streak to 26, second highest active total on the team… Helped pave the way for sophomore Ralph Webb rush for 1,152 yards, the second highest total in team history… Finished his career with 41 starts in 48 appearances… Topped offensive front with 63 pancake blocks during the season… Commodores produced 21-20 overall record with Bernstein in the starting lineup.
2014
Bernstein started all 12 games at left guard… Has 29 starts at guard during his three-year varsity career and concluded the year on a 23-game consecutive starts streak… Brought stability to Commodore offensive line, playing nearly 90 percent of team’s offensive snaps… Commodores have 17-12 overall record with Bernstein in the starting lineup… Produced twice as many pancake blocks (59) than any other offensive linemen.
2013
Bernstein played in 12 games, earning 11 starts at left guard… After missing starts in the team’s first two games, Bernstein finished with 10 consecutive starts… Played virtually every meaningful snap at guard during the second half of season as Commodores finished with four-game win streak and 7-2 mark over their last nine games… Provided excellent experience and punishing run-blocking abilities for the offensive line… Was part of superb left side of Vanderbilt OL with LT Wesley Johnson… Credited with 51 knockdown blocks, 19 intimidation blocks and 72 blocks that led to Commodore first downs and touchdowns… Consistently earning positive blocking grades from coaching staff.
2012
After starting the season as a reserve guard, Bernstein became one of the Commodores’ most valuable and dependent players during the team’s six-game win streak to conclude the season… Played virtually every meaningful snap on the offensive line over the team’s last seven games, seeing action in both guard roles… Earned six starting assignments: four at right guard and two at left guard… Increased playing time began in win over Auburn… First career start came at right guard in win over UMass, followed by starts at same position in road wins against Kentucky and Ole Miss… Started at left guard in late-season wins against Tennessee, Wake Forest and North Carolina State in the Music City Bowl… Shared team’s Offensive Player of the Game honors for blocking performance in bowl victory.
2011
Bernstein did not play as a freshmen… Used redshirt campaign to add strength while impressing coaches with blocking techniques as a prospective guard on the offensive front.
High School
Senior captain… Two-year starter at left tackle for one of top Chicago suburban powers… As senior, helped Gators to first undefeated regular season in team history and into 6A state quarterfinals… Credited with 69 pancake blocks as senior, helping two teammates surpass 1,000-yard rushing mark… Named IHSA 6A All-State, Chicago Tribune second-team All-State… Two-time All-Area… played in the inaugural All-World Gridiron Classic in Charleston, S.C… Also earned letters in baseball, track & field and lacrosse.
