Riebe Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

The Encinitas, California, native posted a pair of top-15 finishes to begin his collegiate career

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt men’s golfer Michael Riebe was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Riebe posted a pair of top-15 finishes over the course of his first two tournaments as a Commodore, held a scoring average of 70.17 and carded par or better in five of his six rounds. He shares SEC Freshman of the Week honors with South Carolina’s August Petersson.

The Encinitas, California, native made his collegiate debut at the 2025 Carmel Cup and finished in third place. Riebe carded 10-under par 206 and posted round scores of 69-66-71. Riebe displayed his accuracy from distance throughout the Carmel Cup, as he led the tournament in par-5 scoring at 11-under, leading the field by three strokes. The NBC Golf Channel first-team All-Freshman selection tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 19, while he was one of nine players in the field to collect an eagle.

In his second tournament at The Invitational at The Honors Course, Riebe posted his second-straight top-15 finish to begin his Commodore career, tying for 11th at 1-under 215. The freshman concluded his second tournament with Vanderbilt with scores of 68-72-75. Riebe’s 36 pars led Vandy, while it was tied for seventh-most among all golfers in the field. His par-5 score of 7-under was second-best in the tournament, just behind senior Wells Williams.

No. 12-ranked Commodores opened the 2025-26 season by winning the 2025 Carmel Cup. Vanderbilt knocked off the defending national champion Oklahoma State in Pebble Beach, California. The Dores finished the Carmel Cup with a team score of 17-under 1,063. Earlier this week, Vanderbilt posted a fourth-place finish at The Invitational at The Honor Course. The Commodores concluded their second tournament of the season at 1-under 863.
