KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Michael Retta won both of his consolation rounds at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals Saturday to move to the quarterfinals Sunday morning.
Retta won his first match in straight sets, defeating BU’s Sam O’Neill 6-2, 6-0. He defeated Chattanooga’s Roberto Viera in a tie-breaker third after splitting sets 6-7, 6-1, (10-8).
Alex DiValerio won his first consolation round of the day by walk-out, but dropped the second match to UT’s Jarryd Chaplin after forcing a tie-breaker.
In the main draw, Gonzalez Austin lost 6-4, 7-6.
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of consolation play will start Sunday morning at 8:30.
